The period of life during which a child becomes an independent adult . It includes physical, mental and sexual maturation . Its timing is variable .· Puberty : The period during which a child becomes sexully mature and able to reproduce . Its timing is varibale but the mean age is 10.5 years (range from 9-14 years)
· Timing of puberty :
- Although the major determinant of the timing of puberty is genetic , but other factors seem to influence the timing of puberty :
1. Geographic locaton : e.g. Earlier in children closer to the equater
2. Exposure to light e.g earlier in blind girls
3. General health and nutrition e.g. earlier in mildly obese females
4. Psychological factors .
