Primary amenorrhea
Menstruation is the end point of cascade of events which begins in the hypothalamus and ends in the uterus. Amenorrhea will occur if any part of this cascade either fails to function endocrinologically or if there is developmental deficiency .
Definition :
· Delayed menarche beyond the age of 16 years in presence of secondary sexual characters or beyond the age of 14 years (13 in Novak) in absence of secondary sexual characters
· When 5 or more years have passed since the onset of pubertal development without attainment of menarche (Novak) .
