- Generally takes 4.5 years- Varibale but in 50% follows the following pattern :
1. Growth spurt : The current hypothesis is that increased sex steroids stimulates release of GH which stimulates IGF-1 (somatomedin C) which affects the cartilage . It occurs 2 years earlier in females .
2. Thelarche : Median age is 9.8 years. It is due to fat deposition and duct system development
3. Adrenarche : usually appears after breast budding but before axillary hair . It is dependent on the adrenal androgens and to a lesser extent on ovarian androgens
4. Menarche :
- Usually the last event . The median age is 12.8 years .
- It occurs after the peak of the growth velocity has passed
- The 1st cycles are usually anovulatory (lasting 12-18 months)
