Weight Loss
|
| Losing the body fat burden may be the first step in breaking the chain of the hormonal disturbance. Calculating the BMI and setting target weight to the patient together with regular weight and waist to hip ratio measurements may serve as a guideline to both the patient and physician on the progress of the dietary control. It should be noted in this respect that losing weight may not be easy in cases of PCOS due to the high levels of androgen. However, it is the most effective means of treatment in these cases as stated in the medical literature. It is as effective as treatment using controlled ovarian stimulation to correct anovulation but safer and cheaper. Physical exercise may help burn up calories and may facilitate weight loss. |
